About

The stories we tell are a collage—ground up and regurgitated masses of experienced and false memory, sounds, tastes, and smells. Costumed celebration serves as a powerful means of augmenting reality in the present. In these magical spaces the dissolution between tangible and fantasy experience serves as a powerful cure to the mediocrity of human existence. Storytelling inspired by the transformative qualities of masquerade is an exemplary means of rewriting past and present at the same time. The manifestation of my pieces is the result of countless hours collecting humble art materials—vintage fabrics, feathers, scrap wood, and thrift store bric-a-brac. Recording found sound and foley in tandem with writing provide a base for each piece’s narrative. Through sculpture, performance, installation, and video I reimagine real events creating an idealized version of personal history. Lush textural details tell stories where limitations and difficulties are melted away. They are a temporary facsimile—much like that of masquerade.
